On June 18th my husband, daughter and my daughter’s friend took a mini vacation to Maine to see the band The Maine. Although the band is called The Maine, their name actually comes from lyrics in a song. They’re on their 8123 tour with Brighten, This Century and A Rocket to the Moon. They were playing at a venue called Port City Music Hall. I loved the place because they had a place for us to sit and drink during the show.
In 2010 I brought my daughter to Los Angeles, CA for a week’s vacation – just her and I. We had so much fun and we planned our trip dates around The Maine’s concert schedule. We saw them at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. Then last year, the day after we picked up our daughter from college in Massachusetts, we spent the night in Albany, NY and saw The Maine.
So, you may be asking yourself, “Who is The Maine?”. Most people in their 40’s have no idea who they are unless they have teenagers who listen to them. I was introduced to them by my daughter in 2008 and have been a fan ever since. They are an indy pop/rock band. They can rock out to songs like Identify.
Then they can play slow, beautiful songs like Jenny (named after the lead singer’s mom, Jenny)
One thing that is really nice about going to see Indy bands in concert is their love for their fans. They always take time after their concert to talk to their fans, sign autographs and pose for photos.
My daughter travels to all the concerts with a book that The Maine put out and has them either draw a picture of anything they’d like or write something – this time around she asked them each to write something inspirational. Here, Kennedy signs her book.
We also talked to Pat and Jared from the band but I forgot to pull out my camera – I know, bad mom. Garrett was also around for photos but he had too many fan girls around him.
In June 2013 they released their new album titled “Forever Halloween”. Their tour bus was decked out with graphics from their albums.
Since it’s summer and we’re in Maine, we decided to spend the weekend here and visit the beaches. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate with us and it rained every day we were here. We didn’t let that stop us from visiting some of the sites – especially this awesome duck tour.
Again, I fail as a photographer as I didn’t take a photo of the duck vehicle. If you’ve ever been to a city that has water, then I’m sure you’ve seen these amphibious vehicles that drive on land and then go into the water. My first introduction to one was in Seattle, WA and I knew my daughter and her friend would love this – and they did.
After the tour we drove down to Cape Elizabeth to capture some photos of the lighthouse.
Although I think what I love the most about traveling is being able to eat at places I don’t get to eat at in Vermont.
Mexican from On The Border – my favorite type of food – mexican!
Although the weather didn’t cooperate with us, we got to see a band we love, beautiful ocean waters, eat amazing food and best of all – spend time with our daughter and her friend. Before long, they’ll be grown, married with kids of their own and we won’t get these opportunities again.
