I love Road Trips. Seriously, I could go on one every week and still want more. There’s something about loading into a car and driving to places unknown….or even known. I would prefer to drive then to fly. I don’t mind flying, I just love the idea of seeing things close up as you drive down the road. I’d also take a back road any day over a highway.
At the beginning of October my daughter and I took a trip to New York City. She is attending college in Massachusetts so I left our home in Vermont and drove via Mass to pick her up. We spent the very long weekend in NYC. Touring the city on the big red bus and acting just like tourists do.
Although I loved the city, the best time for me was sitting with her in the car and having nothing but time on our hands to just talk. Where else can you get the attention of your child without the distractions of tv, video games and friends? I did have to battle with text messages a few times but overall we did a lot of talking and she introduced me to some new music (which I always LOVE).
My hope is that we can take another Road Trip sometime soon, even if just on the back roads of Vermont.
I’d love for you to leave me a comment and tell me What was your favorite Road Trip?
Earlier this year we bought our daughter a Kia Soul. Every time I see the commercials with the hamsters jamming in their cars, I always think of my daughter and I listening to her music on our road trips. I love the fact that I can act like a “young” adult again when I’m with her.
